WHITE MOUNTAINS SNOW CAMP, TOPSY-TURVY LAKE, BODIE

April 4-7, 1981

I picked up two persons from South Lake Tahoe who had signed up for this activity
via my scheduled trip ad. They were glad to be getting such express chauffeur
service--right at their door!

We motored down U.S. 395 to enjoy the winter scenery, and took a quick car camp near the Owens River. Awakening to a beautifully clear morning, we met the Ski Mountaineers group for another attempt on White Mountain Peak.

We were able to drive to Sierra View Point (elev. 8,000'?) and parking lot on the White Mountain Road. This is a worthwhile vista point at any time of the year. Gathering our backpacks, we skied up the normally paved road, and some marveled at the unusual views of the High Sierra.

We were hoping to get to Patriarch Grove, but that was not practical with such a slow group. We had a discussion with the leaders, and went back to camp at Schulmann Grove, which has amenities such as picnic tables and an outhouse.
